Welcome to the new website of the Neurosurgical Association of Malaysia.
The NAM Web page is now totally revamped with new format under Dr. Azmi and the new Webmaster. It will be a lively one compared to before and will be updated frequently with changes made from time to time. I hope it will serve as a venue for exchange of opinions among the members locally and also with our colleagues overseas. As we understand, more and more of the publics are aware of the web page of NAM and they should be better informed about the range of the activities and nature of the movements of the Association together with the latest development of the various neurosurgical services available locally.
NAM NEWSLETTER
The first issue of the NAM Newsletter was released in February 2008 and was well received. Due to financial constraint especially with the recent economical slow down, it will be in cooperated into the Web pages. We welcome articles from Members about special topics write up, surgical techniques and opinions together with information about neurosurgical activities in various part of the countries. Let’s make the webpage more interesting and lively.
ON-LINE NEUROSURGICAL JOURNALS
Members will be able to go on line through the NAM website very soon for the two main neurosurgical journals namely NEUROSURGERY and Journal of Neurosurgery. This is for their easy reference and continuing education.
CONFERENCES AND WFNS EDUCATIONAL COURSE HELD
Last year, NAM had successfully organized the International Spine Conference and the Second Endoscopy hand on Workshop in July followed by the hosting of the 13th ASEAN Conference in Neurosurgery held in conjunction with the WFNS course at Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur from 1st to 4th December 2008. The ASEAN meeting was well attended with participants even from Middle East, Latin America and Africa. The WFNS Educational Course was highlighted with more than 12 renowned teachers from all over the world including the Past and Present Presidents and the President Elect of the World Federation of the Neurosurgical Societies.
8TH ASIAN CONGRESS OF NEUROLOGICAL SURGEONS
We will be the host country for the 8th Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons in 2010. This is going to be the first time for ACNS to be held in South East Asia. The venue will be the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to be held from 22nd to 24th November 2010 preceeded by 2 days of workshops. This is supported by the Ministry of Health and Tourism Malaysia. We have received enthusiastic response not only from the US, Japan, Australia and Europe but also from India, Pakistan, China, our neighbouring countries and the Middle East. The original spirit of education for the younger neurosurgeons from the poorer developing countries will be adhered to with sponsors for their food and lodging and possibly their travel expenditures. The local organizing committee has been formed and preparation for such an important event has been started and will intensified as the event is getting closer. Invitations are opened to all members to contribute by joining the various subcommittees.
With all these activities and a major international Conferences to be held soon, we are looking forward to an exciting future for the Association and the neurosurgical community. Nevertheless we will need the cooperation and active participation of every member to ensure the success of these activities.
