INTRODUCTION

 

The Joint ISMINS Educational Meeting and 15th NAM Annual Scientific Meeting 2015 was successful co-organised by the Department of Neurosurgery, Tunku Abdul Rahman Neuroscience Institute (IKTAR), Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Neurosurgical Association of Malaysia (NAM) and International Society on Minimally Invasive Technique in Neurosurgery (ISMINS) from 01 October to 05 October 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Historically, this event marked the 2nd International Educational Meeting organized by ISMINS following the 1st educational course which was successfully organized in Vienna, Austria by Prof. Engelbert Knosp in 2013 and the 1st National Conference for Nurses and Paramedics.

​

This joint meeting was also supported by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia, Ministry of Tourism and Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), Department of Radiology, Department of Forensic Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Department of Forensic Hospital Serdang, Veterinary University Hospital UPM, Department of Human Anatomy, University Putra Malaysia(UPM) and Advanced Surgical Skill Centre, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC).

The smart partnership between ISMINS International teaching faculties and local expertise paved a new model of advanced and focus Minimally Invasive training course, combining an educational meeting and hands on practical session for both doctors and nurses/paramedics.

​

It was described as a high standard with excellent organization and eye opening by the international delegates and local participants which attracted the interest of young Neurosurgeons, trainees, Nurses and paramedics.

​

The meeting theme was “ Effective Innovation in Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery ” aimed to discuss recent development in various diagnostic and therapeutic intervention in Neurosurgery emphasizing on effective approach towards minimal tissue traumatization, preservation of neurological function and improved outcomes through series of lectures, scientific presentation, interactive discussion and hands on practical sessions.

The educational meeting was held at the Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from 02 to 04 October 2015, preceded by 3 concurrent workshops on Percutaneous Endoscopic Cadaveric Spine, Hands on Endovascular with Live Intervention and Practical Session for Nurses and Paramedics followed by Post Congress Workshop on Vascular Anastomosis on 05 October 2015.
