INTRODUCTION

 

The World Federation of Neurosurgical Society (WFNS) Education & Training Committee in collaboration with the Department of Neurosurgery, Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) and Neurosurgical Association of Malaysia (NAM) successfully organized an Educational Course and Hands on Workshops in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 7 to 11 June 2014. The 5-days program consists of 2 pre & post course hands-on workshops and 1 main educational course.

This event was also supported by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia, Ministry of Tourism and Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), Department of Forensic Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Department of Human Anatomy, University Putra Malaysia and Advanced Surgical Skill Centre, University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre.

The meeting theme was "New Frontiers in Neurosurgery" reflecting the rapid development and continuous breakthrough in the field of Neurosurgery emphasizing on minimally invasive approaches and improved outcome. The course was fully attended with fruitful discussion and exchange of opinion among speakers and participants on various common topics of interest . Details as in the attached program book.

 

ATTENDANCE

 

We received 189 participants from 16 different countries worldwide including speakers and Young Neurosurgeons.

Total 137 participants attended the educational course held at The Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from 8 to 10 June 2014 of which 78% (107) were doctors and 22% (30) nurses and paramedics. Among doctors; Neurosurgeons (60), Residents/ trainees (21), Medical Officers (22), Anesthesiologist (2) and Radiologist (2).

Local delegates from Malaysia contributed to 77% (105) and 23% (32) from abroad including Indonesia (9), Japan (3), Taiwan (2), Uzbekistan (2), Pakistan (2), Sudan (2),

Egypt (2), Germany (2), Saudi Arabia (2), Netherland (1), Romania(1), Italy (1), Bangladesh(1), India (1) and Singapore (1).

30 participants attended the Endoscopic Cadaveric Spine Workshop on 7 June 2014 and 22 participants for the Endovascular Neurosurgery Workshop on 11 June 2014.
